A whole sunflower seed contains about 15 percent protein, with an energy level equal to that of cereal grains. Its main advantage is its high level of fat, providing a good source of linoleic acid. Crushed sunflower seeds in either the black or grey stripe variety can be included in the diets of poultry of all ages. It is a particularly useful source of linoleic acid in layer diets. Since it has a similar nutrient composition to grain, it can be used to replace some of the grain in their diet. High husk levels may limit usage for diets in poultry.
Black Sunflower Seeds: Higher oil content, used for oil production.
GREY SUNFLOWER SEEDS
Grey sunflower seeds, also known as striped sunflower seeds, have grey and white striped shells and are larger with thicker shells compared to black sunflower seeds. They are primarily grown for human consumption.
Nutritional Benefits: High in protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals.
